• Plato down time
  • Plato will be down for maintenance all of Wed May 26
  • Announce on chimera and chimerax mailing lists web services that will be down.

• Phishing attacks targeting UCSF employees
  • UCSF data breaches put many employee names, social security numbers, birth dates on dark web
  • Attackers ask UCSF IT to reset passwords using stolen data
  • Use 2-factor authentication where possible
  • Be careful about security

• R01 underspending
  • TomF submitted R01 annual report
  • More than 25% of R01 budget was unspent, required explanation
  • Extra money may or may not be carried over to next fiscal year, July 1
  • TomF explained to NIH, Conrad retirement, covid hiring freeze prevented meeting all commitments
  • Might request from NIH a no cost extension after June 2022 end of grant to spend remaining money
  • TomF will ask other PIs about how they handle underspent NIH grant
  • Phenix R24 grant started May 3 and is about 1 FTE
  • Hiring new person will be best way to meet grant commitments

• New hire interviews
  • Arrange Zoom interviews with 4 candidates we thought might work from 12 resumes.
  • Scooter and TomG will interview, possibly Eric, 30-60 minutes.
  • Scooter will contact 4 candidates
  • Hamish has best skills, vis, bio, programming, UK citizen, could be easier to hire as a contractor.
  • TomG will ask Hamish to apply if he is interested
