Description (last modified by Tom Goddard)

The new OpenMM 7.7.0 for Linux provided by Tristan in #7857 apparently does not support the CPU platform.

The following bug report has been submitted:
Platform: Linux-5.4.0-120-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.31
ChimeraX Version: 1.6.dev202210281747 (2022-10-28 17:47:30 UTC)
Description
After fixing the RUNPATH in the new OpenMM provided by Tristan openmm can be imported but apparently it does not support the CPU platform. This machine has only Intel graphics.

Resolution: not a bug
Status: assignedclosed

False alarm. I got this error after I did a test import of openmm then tried to use the tug mouse mode. That is because it is necessary to set the environment variable OPENMM_PLUGIN_DIR before importing openmm for it to find its plugins. The tug code does that. But my test "import openmm" was done first.

Have I mentioned that OpenMM is a royal pain? I hope Tristan can weigh on the OpenMM team to make it not so glitchy (putting RUNPATH into builds, not able to find its plugins).

Phew.

The good news is that they’re working on revamping that as part of their
effort to migrate to PyPI.
