The faulthandler output says
"Windows fatal exception: access violation"
which looks like a crash. And also if Python successfully runs the atexit routines then it removes the faulthandler output file so those will not be reported. So we know that ChimeraX got a signal, and fauithandler only catches signals SIGSEGV, SIGFPE, SIGABRT, SIGBUS, and SIGILL that are usually fatal, and that ChimeraX did not exit normally.
Still it seems remotely possible that ChimeraX did not crash. For instance maybe one of those signals is raised but some other signal handler blocks the crash (not sure if that is possible) and then ChimeraX maybe does not exit for some reason -- e.g. maybe the user shutdown their computer without exiting ChimeraX, or maybe they start a second ChimeraX and it sees the faulthandler file. These seem rather unlikely, particularly that some Windows code would suppress a crash with a normally fatal signal.

Yes, but if you look at #5332, you see two _different_ faults logged, one registering the 'webcam' command, and one using the 'open' dialog. Yet the user reported that the crash occurred while saving a session -- which is neither!

Agree. In many crash reports we have seen multiple faulthandler Python tracebacks in show_open_file_dialog on Windows. In #5332 there are 3 fatal exceptions in show_open_file_dialog and three others in show_save_file_dialog which perversely is registering the webcam command which is importing QtMultimedia. How do all those fatal exceptions occur? Shouldn't the first one end the process? In #5332 it seems those 6 fatal errors could not happen all at once since 3 appear to be from show_open_file_dialog and 3 from show_save_file_dialog and pressing the Save button to save a session. Obviously we don't understand something here. Are the multiple tracebacks from faulthandler only on Windows? Or have we seen it on Mac or Linux?
So, do we know if ChimeraX did in fact crash? It seems that the fault handler logs stuff that doesn't result in a crash...
