MemoryError despite seemingly moderate memory usage

surf dust #1 size 200

Windows Task Manager showed Chimera using 3.2 GB of memory when I got this error, and total memory usage on the computer was 54% at that time; it  never used more than 6% CPU when I was looking, and used 0% disk. steamtours was the next biggest memory user at 544 MB.

Interesting. That looks very much like ChimeraX is being limited to 4 Gbytes of memory on your computer by the Windows operating system.

How do you start ChimeraX? Do you double-click the icon?

I will have to search online why Windows would limit ChimeraX to 4 Gbytes. That behaves like ChimeraX is treated like a 32-bit application (limited to 4 Gbyte address space), but we have never made a 32-bit version. Maybe the graphics drivers are 32-bit and that somehow forces the application to run in 32-bit mode. I don't know enough about Windows and will need to study it online.
