Description
Attemted to use select tool for histadine residues. Have encountered this problem despite restarting software, and when exiting the selection panel without acturally selecting anything.

The ChimeraX error means your graphics driver is not able to draw selection outlines, so selecting anything will produce the error. This is a defective graphics driver. You may be able to solve the problem by updating the driver.

You are running Windows 8 and ChimeraX only supports Windows 10. That could also be related to this error. For Windows 8 I recommend our older Chimera software which uses an older graphics standard.
