Description
The following bug report has been submitted:
Platform: Windows-10-10.0.19041
ChimeraX Version: 1.1 (2020-09-09 22:22:27 UTC)
Description
I sent email to your email list with topic "Exporting 3D models from ChimeraX?". Issues was that exported 3D models in gltf format didn't show right in PowerPoint and they were washed out. Tom Goddard asked me to send gltf file from PyMol. PyMol hadles this little better, but not much. I remembered that PyMol got it right, but now when I saw exported 3D model in PowerPoint, it was slightly washed out in colours.

| Summary: | Pymol gltf file → glTF too bright in PowerPoint |
|---|---|
| Type: | task → defect |
I compared the PyMol glTF file to a ChimeraX glTF of the same structure. There were no extra lighting or settings specified in PyMol. Embedding the PyMol glTF in PowerPoint produces the same bad bright lighting. It looks a little better with PyMol colors because PyMol is not using as bright a green and yellow as ChimeraX. The ChimeraX glTF can be made to look reasonably good, much better than PyMol by exporting a dim version as glTF. That compensates for the overly bright lighting set by PowerPoint. Here are example ChimeraX commands
open 2egc
color strand yellow
color !strand lime
show :50-55
color :50-55 byhet
color modify #1 lightness 10
save 2egc-light10.glb
I'll attach images from PowerPoint of ChimeraX lightness 10, lightness 15 and PyMol.
In summary, this is a PowerPoint problem that it does not set reasonable lighting nor does it allow you to change the lighting to be dimmer.

I don't see anything we can do about PowerPoint's bad lighting.
