I've seen this error starting VR in the past when starting VR a second time in the same ChimeraX session. That problem was fixed 3 years ago. And you appear to get this error the first time you start VR.

I don't have any great ideas. The error message

openvr.error_code.CompositorError_TextureUsesUnsupportedFormat

suggests that ChimeraX is providing the eye images in a format that cannot be handled. But in past reports of this error message, that was not really the problem, and the error message from the OpenVR/SteamVR library was simply misleading.

My best guess is that your rare Nvidia RTX A4500 is the source of the problem.

Here are a few things I would try. First use the current ChimeraX 1.7 release candidate instead of your old ChimeraX 1.5. Try starting SteamVR outside ChimeraX before you use the "vr on" command in ChimeraX. The ChimeraX 1.7 supports a different VR library OpenXR which works with SteamVR and you can try "xr on" instead of "vr on" and maybe that will work. In fact the OpenXR version can work without SteamVR using just the Oculus application if you are using Quest headsets. You need to set the Oculus app to be the preferred OpenXR runtime for that to work.
