This works fine for me using ChimeraX 1.5 on an Intel Mac with macOS 13.1. Your Intel Mac is running a much older macOS version 10.14. But I don't think that is a problem. Your Mac laptop model MacBookPro15,2 is notorious for having graphics problems in ChimeraX, but again I don't think that is the problem. Are you putting the side view window on a different display than the main ChimeraX window? I see you have two displays. That should work, but OpenGL graphics is so poorly supported by Apple I would not be surprised if the driver fails to render both. If you have both side view and main view on the same display you might also try without the second display connected.

In any case, the problem is almost surely a Mac OpenGL graphics limitation. The newer Mac M1/M2 machines have much better OpenGL graphics support. But Apple long ago deprecated the cross-platform OpenGL standard when the introduced their proprietary Metal graphics so their support for OpenGL is not the best.
