Description
The following bug report has been submitted:
Platform: macOS-10.15.7-x86_64-i386-64bit
ChimeraX Version: 1.6.dev202302090207 (2023-02-09 02:07:02 UTC)
Description
moving marker with right mouse does not move its "molecular surface"
this is an obscure situation so file as desired, session attached where I created a marker, showed its "molecular surface" and then used right-mouse move marker mode

The molecular surface updates as expected for me in the current ChimeraX 1.6 devel build.
You did something strange, made a marker, then an SES surface on that marker, hid the marker, then placed a second marker on the surface of the first marker, then moved the second marker which of course did nothing to the surface which is only a surface of the first marker, then you dragged the first marker even though it was hidden (which is a bug!) which moved the marker surface. The surface on a marker looks almost identical to the marker because it is an SES surface and the SES surface of a sphere is exactly the same as the sphere.
If you instead create two markers and then make an SES surface on both, it is pretty cool to watch the surface smoothly recompute as you move one of the markers.

Apologies, I thought I just made a marker and put a surface on it! I even tried twice, but everything was hastily (and apparently incorrectly) done because I was trying to do it at the same time as the zoom meeting.

Where things went wrong is that after you made a marker and its surface you didn't change the mouse mode to "move marker", but you clicked and that placed a second marker on the surface of the first marker since the mouse mode was "place marker on surface" from when you created the first marker. Then I think you concluded you had dragged the original marker and the surface did not move when in fact you had just placed a new marker! It is all too easy for things to go haywire in ChimeraX.
I also see now why it is possible to move the hidden marker even though it is not shown, with only its surface shown. Clicking on the marker surface in "move marker" mode picks the surface which in turn picks the hidden marker atom (just like a selection would), so the drag actually moves the marker which recomputes the surface so the surface moves too! Yikes.
