In old version of ChimeraX. numpy is version 1.21.2. Upgrading numpy to version 1.21.5 would be something to try. Or better yet, the user should upgrade their version of ChimeraX to the latest version.

Probably not a numpy bug -- those are extremely rare. We have seen many crashes in numpy in the past that were in Python garbage collection (visible in Mac crash reports).
