You probably are using Microsoft OneDrive which relocates your Desktop folder so that the ChimeraX "spin movie" and "snapshot" toolbar buttons which save to the Desktop cannot find your Desktop directory.

This is described in bug report

We don't have any fix for those toolbar buttons. But you can use the movie command or save command to save movies and images and specify a path for saving the result.

Another solution is to not use OneDrive.
