Description
The following bug report has been submitted:
Platform: macOS-10.16-x86_64-i386-64bit
ChimeraX Version: 1.5.dev202208060049 (2022-08-06 00:49:17 UTC)
Description
"cofr" after tiling reports front center rotation when it is actually independent rotation (seems wrong/confusing although I understand the independent mode applies only to interactive mouse manipulation)

Yeah it is not ideal. As you say the independent rotation is just a mouse mode. The cofr command describes the center that will be used by the turn and roll commands. The independent rotation was not done as a "center of rotation mode" -- that would seem more sensible but is much more complex to handle in the code, so that is why the current compromise of making it a mouse mode came about.
I don't see these decisions changing. The center of rotation concept in ChimeraX is just a single rotation point, and tiled rotation is a special mouse mode. I think that will mostly be confusing for old Chimera users, probably much less a problem for new users.
