Undoubtedly a consequence of the Qt6 switch to enums.

comment:3 by Eric Pettersen, 3 years ago

Should I commit only to develop you think?

in reply to:  4 ; comment:4 by goddard@…, 3 years ago

I guess there will be few reports of this error before 1.5 comes out given that I am the only one to report it since Qt 6 has been in our daily builds ~3 months. But if think it is a safe change I am not against putting it in 1.4. Only you know the details to decide if it is safe. If it affects the saved preferences that seems a little risky.

It's pretty trivial; here's the diff:

I guess since the preferences file still contains ints it probably won't break older ChimeraX if newer Qt 6 version uses the same integer values. In the patch it only looked like conversion from enum to int was done. Isn't there a need for int to enum conversion when reading the preference value?

comment:8 by Eric Pettersen, 3 years ago

The saved "placement" values are not necessarily ints (e.g. None means floating). As part of ToolWindow.manage(), the ints are first converted to text so that they can interoperate with default window placement preferences (see the "Window" preferences category) and then those are converted to enums.
