Thanks for reporting the problem. I suspect ChimeraX must have crashed while the history of recently opened files was being written. This file saves the thumbnails you see in the graphics area when you first start ChimeraX. Sorry your ChimeraX recent file history was probably lost. In the past year or two we have never seen this problem but before that we saw it once or twice. So I suspect it is a problem in those old ChimeraX versions. You are using ChimeraX 1.1, but the current version is 1.3 about 1 year newer, and we plan to release 1.4 in May or June. So I would suggest using a newer version.
