Looks like this bug has already been reported to the matplotlib team and the reporter says it only happens with 3.5.1
and PyQt5.
I thought we had been using Qt6 since March 11 -- why does this daily build from March 28 have Qt5?

Ah - figured out how to reproduce it. Happens if I click the Show button and then *really* quickly move the mouse over the plot will be before it's managed to display itself.
