(2) Think I’ll need to use crossfade instead of transparency fade, because if there are silhouettes they don’t fade along with the model’s increasing transparency. That’s OK with me (this isn’t a request), just thought I’d mention it.

I think this is too difficult and too infrequently used to implement. Others have mentioned it when making Chimera 1 movies, and I'm not saying it is not useful.
An example is the feature-highlight kinase moreph movie, ligand faded in and out simultaneous with morphing (so I didn't want to use crossfade)
