"Remind me later" false on new version check keeps reminding

Description
The newer version check "Remind me later" option does not seem to work if it is checked off.  No ignore_update setting is written to the settings file and it keeps on reminding.

I tested this by setting core.buildinfo.version = '1.1' and modifying the chimerax.core-1 settings file to turn back the newer_last_check date for each test. Not clear why the ignore_update setting does not get saved. The code

settings.save("ignore_update")

in toolshed/init.py seems to be called. Maybe it is because the value is a list and the code simply extends the list, but the list itself has the same id. Maybe settings decides not to save it thinking it has not changed.

That code works for me on Windows. But I was testing it by replacing chimerax/core from a local build with the version from the 1.3 release. I'll completely rebuild 1.3 from scratch and see if I can reproduce this.

My test was with the current (Nov 25) 1.3 release candidate build.

I can reproduce this. The Python version, 3.9.6, prereqs/pips/app_requirements.txt, src/core/toolshed/init.py, src/core/settings.py, and src/core/core_settings.py are identical between the 1.3 branch and the develop branch, so no obvious bug. Mysterious.

Fixed on 30 Nov 2021, 86d23b00f0caf436f38e89534da9cffc6882b8ba. The bug was with how settings that are lists are saved. For an unknown reason, an explicit save worked in the develop branch, but not in the release branch.
