Tried to show a size 2800,3750,288 map at step 2 (3 Gvoxels, float32, 12 Gbytes) and graphics card did not have sufficient memory. The glBufferData call was trying to fill a 7 Gbyte texture. I don't understand that buffers size, would expect it to be only 1.5 Gbytes. Maybe it is blending multiple maps since the user has 11 maps open that are each 1-2 Gbytes in size and another map had exactly the same size. Graphics AMD Radeon Pro Vega 64X has 16 Gbytes of memory.
The user used "graphics restart" so they understood the error message.
Is there any way we can improve this? Obviously we can't render if the graphics is out of memory. We could give an error message without a traceback. We could continue rendering only omit the maps where the allocation failed. Seems like a good bit of work for a quite rare case which is handled clearly enough now.
