The 3.0 files you mention have a line
Lattice { byte Labels } @1(HxByteRLE,5191161)
which says the data are bytes and run-length encoded (the HxByteRLE part). The ChimeraX Amira reader only handles float and unsigned 16-bit integers and does not handle run-length encoding. The reader could easily be made to handle bytes, just adding about 10 lines that look just like the float / ushort case. But the run-length encoding would require more work. The run-length encoding is a way of compressing data that has the same value (e.g. 0) repeated over and over. This data looks like a segmentation with just a few regions labeled 1, 2, 3, ... so the run-length encoding greatly reduces the file size.
Is this exactly the kind of data you are trying to look at, or are these just example files that differ from your data?
