Description

Hi ChimeraX heroes,

I feel bad for contacting you so often with all these issues. Yesterday I
worked all day in chimeraX and it was fine. Today I opened the program and
its not responding when I try to open any mrc file. Even when I reset to
defaults by renaming the ChimeraX folder it. This is how it looks in the
task manager (maybe that can give you an idea of what is happening). I
really don't know what to do here.Should I reinstall Chimera?

Unfortunately, it doesnt give me the option to send log information. But I
can tell you that this is 1.2.5 version. Do you also want the AppData
folder for this?

Best regards
Panagiotis

Hi Panagiotis,

You should install the daily build and see if that helps. We will be making a 1.3 release in not too long, and the daily build is the closest thing to that -- so we might as well work on fixing this bug in the most current version of the code.

Don't feel bad -- we like the bug reports -- they help us fix the problems.

Besides trying the daily build as Eric suggests, could you attach the screenshot of task manager if you still have it. It did not get the image in the bug report.

Does ChimeraX hang when you open a PDB model, or only MRC maps? That would be very odd. Are the maps on a different disk drive? Could that disk drive be failing?

I don't think the AppData ChimeraX folder will be useful since renaming it did not fix the problem. And reinstalling ChimeraX will almost certainly not fix it.

It could be a new buggy graphics driver that hangs trying to draw the map. To see if the hang is when it is trying to draw the map try the command "volume showOnOpen false" before opening the map. Then it won't draw it but you should see it in the Models pane and ChimeraX should of course not be hung.
