Description

Hi,
We recently tried to install chimerax on a server running a windows 10 VM.
The installation fails to start. We can't submit using the Help... Report a
Bug feature. The error from the event log was "Faulting module path:
C:\Program Files\ChimeraX
1.2.5\bin\lib\site-packages\PyQt5\Qt\bin\Qt5WebEngineCore.dll". Do you have
any suggestion for how we might fix this?
Thank you, Paul

Just to follow up on this ticket. This has been discussed in the chimerax-users mailing list.

So officially ChimeraX is not supported in virtual machines. That said, I have been running Linux virtual machines on Windows 10 to test ChimeraX and that can work. I use the "free" VMware Workstation 16 Player and turn on "Accelerate 3D Graphics". Oracle VirtualBox did not work for me. So you may need to experiment with other virtual machine software. You should also have a 3D graphics card and graphics driver installed on the host machine.

As for your particular problem, my guess is that a suitable graphics driver needed to be installed in Windows VM. See the documentation for VM.
