This error is because the previous time you ran ChimeraX it saved your list of recently opened files (the files it shows in the main window when you start), but that saved file was corrupted. This has been reported a few times in the past few years. I think the way the recent files file gets corrupted is probably ChimeraX crashed when you quit. The file gets saved when you quit ChimeraX and maybe when it was only half-way saved ChimeraX crashed (in another thread) and so the full file did not get written. You probably would not notice it crashed because you were quitting the program anyways. The next time you start ChimeraX it finds the corrupted file and can't show you your history of recent files.

Actually looking at the current code and ChimeraX 1.1 code saving saves to a temporary file and only replaces the original file if it completes. So I don't think the crash explanation is how the file gets corrupted. So I don't know how the file gets corrupted.

At any rate, you can ignore this bug, although unfortunately it loses your recent file history.

One possible fix I could do is have ChimeraX keep your previous file history in a backup file. If it reads the current file history and it is corrupted, then it reads the backup history file. I don't think this problem has been reported in over a year so I think it is too rare to spend time adding that code right now.
