I'd need more detail to understand the bug you see. When you do not include the log in the bug report I get almost no information.

Do you mean that the tape mouse mode causes a crash when clicking not on a surface? I tried that on Windows with ChimeraX 1.0 and it worked fine (used "open 30210 from emdb" for surface). Clicking off the surface drag and release works. Clicking on the surface, drag and release off the surface works. When you say "crash" you mean the program exits, ie. disappears and has to be restarted? Or is it just an error message? If it just gives an error message and you can reproduce it then press the Report Bug button and include the log and it should be easy to debug.
