For the design, including the standard midi library into the event loop would be helpful for integrating hardware interfaces.

Whether this is feasible will depend on whether Qt (and PyQt) have support for MIDI. I don't think there is built-in support. Here's a Qt project "hairless-midiserial" that might be relevant.
