Preference setting for model id numbers

Would be helpful if new model numbers were always one larger than highest open model id. Currently a new model will get an id that fills a gap left by a closed model. Opening a few models consecutively then does not assign them consecutive id numbers which is hard to work with.

Is there any way to renumber maps in a session so subsequent maps open together and in order instead of replacing the numbers of maps removed from the session?
