Description (last modified by Elaine Meng)

Would be nice to some cartoon style presets.

Some possibilities for basic presets:
(1)default (everything default)
(2)licorice (could be named something else) with a round cross-section throughout, kind of like the coil in the default representation, but probably with a larger radius. Something like what is currently achieved with:
cartoon style arrows f wid 1 thick 1 x round
(3)helix tubes, increased sides (car style modeh tube sides 18)

I was thinking in analogy to the convenient "lighting" command presets, although unlike lighting, "cartoon" can also take an atomspec. Syntax could be similar to lighting presets, or maybe we'd need a separate cartoon subcommand "cartoon preset" ...

Summary: RFE: add "tube" cartoon (ribbon) style or presetRFE: add cartoon (ribbon) presets

I changed the title because this "tube" suggestion was different than the tube helices. It would have been a preset for an overall tube like Chimera1 licorice. It would still be a useful preset, but should be called something else if we continue to use "tube" to mean the bendy-cylinder helix representation. The main point is eventually it would be nice to have presets and eventually user-defined cartoon styles, i.e. named sets of custom cartoon style settings.

Yes, I made up those main menu presets.

My original intent in filing this ticket was not quite the same thing: instead it was to get something into the cartoon or cartoon style command that would be named sets of parameters, similar to how the lighting command has “simple” “full” etc. that are composites of multiple lighting settings. The main menu presets somewhat fulfill the same purpose, to make it easier for people to get any nondefault styles, because hardly anyone will bother to figure out how to use the detailed command options. However, they are the barest minimum, since to avoid the “too many choices” problem, there are only 3 combinations. Greg now has a plethora of nucleotides icons for easy switching, but there aren’t any icons for cartoon styles. We could think about whether any cartoon style icons might be reasonable to add. I don’t know, haven’t thought about that yet.
