Maybe selecting the tube should select ribose atoms?
Ctrl-click tube to select, command: view sel
No displayed objects specified.
command: color sel pink
command: select clear
(nothing happens in either case)

So should it be the full ribose or just the ribose atoms than are not part of the ribbon backbone?

I'd vote for the whole ribose, although I could be persuaded if you have a strong opinion otherwise.

Went with the whole ribose. The difference is that with the whole ribose, both the cylinder and the ribbon are selected, instead of just the cylinder.

Agree that selecting tube should select ribose atoms. Temporarily "fixed" tubes, so they are not selectable.
