When I start ChimeraX 1.10 on macOS 26.0 on a Mac Mini M1 it correctly displays the text under the file history icons and in the Log. So there is something unusual about your Mac causing this problem. The "?" symbols suggest that the needed fonts are not found. The file history thumbnail images and the Log use Qt HTML widgets which are based on the Chromium web engine. So for some reason Chromium can't find the fonts on your Mac.

This web page suggests a problem where Microsoft Office installs a Tahoma font in /Library/Fonts/Microsoft/Tahoma can cause a similar problem:

said "Go into Font Book, and in advanced hit the Reset Fonts button." Font Book is an app in /Applications and the advanced tab is under Settings once you start that app.
