Possible duplicate of #18227.

ChimeraX does not work well with Wayland and Nvidia graphics yet. This is a generic problem. From ​https://wiki.gnome.org/Initiatives/Wayland/NVIDIA: "There is currently no accelerated GLX support when running a GNOME Wayland session no top of the NVIDIA drivers, meaning X11 OpenGL applications will use software rendering." This makes ChimeraX unusable for larger systems.

To switch off of Wayland on Ubuntu 24.04, when you login on the console, click on the gear icon in the lower right, and select "Ubuntu" instead of "Ubuntu on Wayland"

And make sure you have the Nvidia driver installed. See ​https://documentation.ubuntu.com/server/how-to/graphics/install-nvidia-drivers/.
