Description
Repeat by opening 2bna and switching all atoms with "nuc atoms" and see that sugars are not tethered to the ribbon anymore.

It's not the tethers that are missing. It's the C5'-C4' and O3'-C3' bonds. For the protein analog, CA is a backbone atom but CB is not, so the CA-CB bond is displayed and the sidechain is connected to the cartoon.
The C5'-C4' and O3'-C3' bonds are not displayed because all four atoms are "backbone" atoms (try selecting "backbone" from Select->Structure menu). Both C5' and O3' are close enough to the ribbon that there are no tethers for them anyway. I vaguely recall that we had tethers to all the backbone atoms at one point and changed it because it looked too busy with multiple tethers per residue. I cannot recall why C3' and C4' are marked as backbone, but there was some reason. Not sure what the right solution is.
