Convert preferences category chooser from menu to side list

Could we do a side category list? Would that be too much of a 90s-00s era throwback?

​This commit implements the settings menu using a QTreeWidget which gives us flexibility to add subcategories later on.

I subsequently committed a fix for an ​accidental argument omission.
