Hello, 
This is not a bug but a suggestion. It would be useful if opening a new chimera file (.cxs) popped a new window and not replace the one already open. I've wasted so much time by mistakenly opening sessions when another one was already open.

There could be a preference for asking for confirmation when opening a session when there are models open.

It sounds like Leo is saying he double clicked a ChimeraX session file on his Mac desktop and it opens the session in the already opened ChimeraX deleting the current session shown in that ChimeraX. I just tested it and that is indeed what happens. Your current session is closed. What Leo requested is not a confirmation dialog, but that it open a second copy of ChimeraX with the new session.

Can double clicking be distinguished from drag/drop? Certainly for drag/drop you wouldn't want a new window...

I don't know if double click can be distinguished from drag and drop using Qt. I would look at the Qt event received in those two cases to see if the event type or any event method can distinguish the two.

By the time Qt gets the event, isn't it too late? If it's a double click, you would have to start another instance of ChimeraX and hand off the information about what to open. Seems ugly even if it's possible. Maybe something in the file-association info in Info.plist can get the system to start a new copy of ChimeraX?

I do not know if an Info.plist attribute exists to control if a new ChimeraX is launched. Alternative solutions might be to show a confirmation dialog before closing the existing session. Maybe that confirmation panel could even allow merging the session.

Okay, I can run a dialog that asks replace/merge/abort, with a preference setting for making one of those the default (starting out with "ask" as the default).
