ChimeraX Version: 1.8.dev202403290055 (2024-03-29 00:55:10 UTC)
Description
Version 1.71 opens an hdf map generated by EMAN2 subtomogram averaging. Converting it to mrc format (using e2proc3d.py) allows it to still be opened in Version 1.71. Version 1.8dev fails to open hdf formatted file, with error as reported. Version 1.8dev opens the mrc file no problem.

In my testing the ChimeraX 1.8 daily build on Intel Mac gives an error reading any HDF5 file while the ARM Mac (M1,M2,M3) works for all HDF5 files including the one attached to this report.

This is a problem with the PyTables library version 3.9.2 that ChimeraX daily builds are using, that is not present in the PyTables version 3.8.0 that ChimeraX 1.7.1 uses. Also the daily build Mac ARM version still uses the 3.8.0 version and that is why it is working.

I have reverted the ChimeraX daily build to use the working PyTables version 3.8.0.

Fixed.

PyTables 3.9.2 has problems so I reverted to the working 3.8.0 version.
