December 11, 2008

Attendees: Elaine, Tom, Greg, Eric, Conrad

New Action Items

  • Greg will make production and candidate releases not have build numbers as part of the file name
  • Greg will change the release string from "x.y.z.w" to "x.y.zbw" where the "b" is literal
  • Greg will change daily build and snapshot naming to match the release string, ie include the build numer in the file names

Previous Action Items

  • Conrad, Eric, Greg and Scooter have tasks for Chimera production release and conversion to svn/trac
    • convert from cvs to svn
    • convert from gnats to trac
    • create account for Wei to access svn/trac
  • Conrad will look into disabling stereo in orthographic view
  • Al will decommission SGI after the next Chimera production release
  • Al will install stereo-capable workstation to replace SGI before decommissioning SGIs
  • tef will contact Adobe for more information about embedding 3d graphics in PDF documents

Minutes

  1. Previous Action Items
    • Tom has updated library course description
    • Elaine composed and sent 1.3 announcements
    • Tom has updated numpy to 1.2.1
    • matplotlib is now on Eric's TODO list
  1. cvs->svn conversion (Conrad)
    • Tabled pending Scooter's attendence
  1. Chimera web services opportunity (Scooter via Conrad)
    • Conrad repeated Scooter's experience at the PharmChem retreat. John Irwin has a number of web services, eg ZINC and DockBlaster, for which he would like to see frontends in Chimera. This is a good opportunity since we want to build a web service infrastructure in Chimera. Some of John's web services already provide session identifiers for picking up results, so making that a model (or at least the starting point for a model) that Chimera supports makes good sense.
  1. Adding variable expansion to commands (Eric)
    • Matt Dougherty sent suggestions on making session names available in scripts so that they can be used to construct file names for automatically generated movies. Tom has contacted Matt and found that having access to having access from Python is sufficient.
  1. Version number in download file name (Conrad)
    • The download file name includes the build number as the last component of a release number, eg 1.3.2578. Since we want people to refer to just 1.3 and not 2578, it would be nice if the build number does not appear in production and candidate release file names. Greg will look into this.
  1. [Additional Topic] Default view on opening molecule
    • TomG suggested that white vectors are not the best choice for the default "New Molecule" representation. After much discussion, it was suggested that "New Molecule" and "Preset" have much in common. The big difference is that Presets apply to all open models while New Molecule only applies to the newly opened models. Some Preset functionality is based on the number of models open, eg rainbow for chains if only one model is open but across models if multiple ones are open. Perhaps its possible to split the Preset functionality into "Each Molecule" and "All Molecules", with "Each Molecule" functionality available as "New Molecule" options. No agreement was reached. Topic will be retained for next meeting agenda.
