542542Brief discussion of putting use of presets into the NIH 3D pipeline script(s). Is independent of changing the presets themselves. Preset bundle is not yet on Toolshed, still under revisions pending feedback from Phil, Meghan, et al.

544 Darrell and Meghan were talking with Vox magazine while Phil and TomG were in the VR/AR interest group demo hosted by Jeremy Swann. The ChimeraX VR demo went well, only minor glitches.  Used tug mode with interactive brief MD and depth-sensing camera. Up to 50 people attended, including illustrators. Had to put posters sideways because depth-sensing camera has problems with horizontal lines of text.  TomG also found that putting post-its on the walls helps it sense them. Must also watch out for reflections.

546Need to discuss SOW. Please clarify your interests... Meghan: the four areas of emphasis are VR, cryoEM, medical imaging, NIH 3D pipeline. Darrell: what specific items we know we need may be only ~50K worth of work, but we also want to support the general efforts to help all researchers in these broader areas. Contract renewal has not yet happened, so things are still in flux, so we can't even use the SOW until the organizational structure is in place.  Meghan: Sonia wants it to be ready to go "now," however. Darrell: could be finalized soon, and will need the SOW at that point. I accidentally failed to plan (for year 1) for both all of our new hires and this contract funding.  Later years are not under this restriction. Meghan: don't overthink this, we have always been happy with whatever you give us.
     547
548Eric: we have areas like the NIH 3D pipeline but we don't know what else to say about it, e.g. specific deliverables. Generally we only know the single next step and it is an iterative process. In practical terms, what can we say in the SOW when we don't know specifics? Meghan: can we divide it into buckets, e.g. 3D export. Phil: can say something like "iteratively optimize output to make better models for 3D printing" Darrell: "support" is also a good word to indicate ongoing activity.  Meghan: can use similar text to last years' SOW, top-level items are all the same, need to replace the sub-items below it. TomG: well, that's our sticking point.
     549
550What are the sub-items for VR and cryoEM? What is the relative importance of multi- vs. single-user VR?  Phil: multiperson is very important, shared sessions in our bioviz lab will be increasingly prevalent as the pandemic subsides. General agreement w/ Darrell and TomG's experience. Meghan: mention international collaboration.
     551
552TomG: spending much of my time on !AlphaFold and that is highly relevant to cryoEM. Is there a way we can put this in the SOW within the cryoEM section? R01 renewal application does include this area (and the MM/MD stuff below), but its funding would not start until 2023, leaving a year gap. Darrell: if you think it is important for cryoEM we would trust you on that. TomG: how about interactive MD with cryoEM fitting? Darrell: can you give more details... TomG: all atom, OpenMM, AMBER-type force field, ... parametrization of nonstandard residues requires a lot of work. Chimera has minimization, ChimeraX not yet. Phil: dock prep & minimization within a year would be useful (as opposed to having to wait a year for our R01 renewal to kick in).
