• Computer downtime
  • Scooter says cgl-backup and cgl-primary will be down a few hours on Saturday for kernel updates.

• CGL email issues
  • Greg says outgoing CGL email sent on command-line as done by programs that send email wasn't getting signed.
  • Our email server security records say our email is only valid if SPF (record saying what servers are allowed to send email) is used or it is signed. So the lack of signing may cause email to fail to be delivered.
  • Greg is working on fixing the signing.
  • Tom Ferrin and Scooter say another issue is CGL email sent to some outside addresses handled by Microsoft servers disappears with no bounce and nothing received by recipient.
  • Greg needs to talk with Microsoft email support person to resolve this serious email loss.

• CGL web server timing out
  • Scooter has adjusted production web server to allow more connections so that it does not time out when too many connections are queued.

• Greg work in progress
  • Showed "active" ChimeraX user statistics gleaned from web log entries when ChimeraX asks for Toolshed updates or new ChimeraX versions.
  • Uses unique user id which is a hash of uuid.getnode() (e.g MAC address) and user name.
  • Default update request interval is 2 weeks.
  • 47000 unique users in June 2024.
  • Showed nice world and US maps of monthly and cumulative users.
  • Will try to automate log scans and map creation and put the output on the ChimeraX web site.
  • Scooter suggests putting a link in Quick Links called Statistics, in addition to the current Download page link, so it is more visible.
