Discussion
- ChimeraX
- ChimeraX on CentOS6
- Genentech is running ChimeraX on CentOS7 server and remote displaying to CentOS6 workstations (90% of their WS)
- Want to run directly on CentOS6
- Building for CentOS6 is a pain because Qt wheels do not run on CentOS6 (QtWebEngine needs newer C library => new run-time loader)
- RedHat6 cannot run CentOS7 Singularity image
- RH6/CentOS6 EOL 11/25/2020
- ChimeraX won't run on CentOS6 after some effort
- ChimeraX on CentOS7
- SteamVR does not run on CentOS7, so no ChimeraX VR
- Need to add VR platform warnings
- Tristan's REST proposal
- Conrad will investigate how Tristan's mechanism works and start discussion on what style of REST is best (how to specify arguments, etc.)
- Permissions on ChimeraX wiki
- Should move ancient crud to archeological part of site
- Option 1:
- Adopt Chimera wiki permission plugin
- Move selected private links to protected area (are there any?)
- Open most of site
- Option 2:
- Two wikis
- Putting RBVI bundles on toolshed
- Want separate run-time vs build-time dependencies in bundle_info.xml
- Visit the bundle-release page (from intranet) and release your bundles
- Need to segregate "standard" bundles from "extra" bundles
- Stable APIs
- See action items
- Move to github
- Move to private RBVI github project
- Easier to share with collaborators with github admin tools
- "pull requests" should simplify enhancement/fix submission
- will not happen that soon
- Move to private RBVI github project
- ChimeraX on CentOS6
Action Items
- Greg will update Linux notes on download page
- Greg will add "VR Notes" link below "Platform Notes" link (https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/vr.html)
- TomG will update warning on linked page
- Conrad will investigate how Tristan's mechanism works and start discussion on what style of REST is best (how to specify arguments, etc.)
