= ChimeraX Developer Meeting = Attendance: Eric, Zach, Tom, Greg, Scooter April 10, 2023 = Agenda = * ChimeraX 1.6 release progress. * Make Chimera release about same time as ChimeraX 1.6. - Opal will be shutdown on plato around mid-May, so release before that. * Python updating plan, binary releases only available 1.5 years after each release. * Chimera/ChimeraX notarization scripts need updating, Apple deprecated altool command Fall 2023 [https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/trac/ChimeraX/ticket/7234 #7234] * ChimeraX Ideas milestone clean-up. * Install Splunk on plato to monitor web services. * Back up the Chimera build machine to a solid state drive, Windows 7? * Toolshed bundle requirement checking * Discuss possible OpenMM and VR improvements for Tristan and Altos to pursue -------------------------- = Discussion = * ChimeraX 1.6 release * mmCIF out of memory bug reports - There have been 3 mmCIF out of memory bug reports with 1.6 release candidates, possibly just 2 different users. - There were 3 older mmCIF out of memory reports. - All reports on Windows. - The mmCIF files with pdb identifiers are not large * Tom Ferrin observed a 3 minute hang on ChimeraX release candidate startup with 3 timeout messages logged to cxservices checking for ChimeraX updates. Greg will look into it. * Chimera release - Ready to release. Plan is to release on Thursday. Greg will do it. - Eric made a fix to session exporter last week. - Wynton update to Rocky 8 is being postponed until Fall, but we still will update plato to Rocky 8, possibly in the May 1 day service outage. * Wynton and BeeGFS - BeeGFS will have a point release in May 7.2.5 to 7.2.9. - BeeGFS 7.3.3 fixes a known hang on Wynton but will not be updated until Fall. * CGL email - CGL email will use ProofPoint filtering in coming months. - Should get better spam filtering. - Still looking at how to examine rejected email since ProofPoint sometimes has marked legitimate email as spam. * SVN web service - We have an SVN web service, original for Chimera running. - IT not happy about it since it is so old. - Chimera source distribution switched to tar file many months ago. - Can shut down svn web service. * NIAID new contract - Still have not heard when new NIAID contract will start. Waiting for GuideHouse. - Scooter will talk to Nada Midani soon if we receive no info. - Uncertain whether we have Thursday NIAID meeting. Phil Cruz did not respond to suggestion to reschedule last week's meeting to this week. * Chimera source code on github - Greg suggested putting Chimera source code on github. - Scooter does not think we should put effort into this. - Greg says he is putting MidasPlus source code in github as side project. -------------------------- = Action Items = - Present github continuous integration tutorial.
