 Hi Lori,
         Thanks for reporting this problem.  The Rosetta emulation that
 your Mac uses to execute Intel executables (like ChimeraX 1.4) does not
 efficiently handle memory usage when executing subprocesses (such as when
 ChimeraX runs ffmpeg to encode movie frames or al2co to compute sequence
 alignment conservation).  So if you were using a lot of memory at the time
 (you were using 7.7GB) then ChimeraX might crash.
         The only real solution to this is to use the "M1 technology
 preview" available on the the ChimeraX download page, which will not only
 run faster (no emulation) but won't have this subprocess problem.
