[Chimera-users] Chimera wont start

For my case the latest Radeon driver 21.5.2 for a RX 590 on a Windows 10 machine with a Xeon E5-2630 CPU is not compatible with Chimera 2021-05-11 but Chimera X seems to be fine.

Cheers,

Stefan

The driver bug might not be fixed for all Radeon cards, so you might need to revert to an even earlier version. The Radeon Software 21.4.1 driver fixed the problem on a Lenovo IdeaPad 330S that has a Ryzen 5 2500U APU with Radeon Vega graphics. The Lenovo OEM driver from 6 March 2019 (25.20.14016.1) also worked. So sometime in between it broke.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for getting back to me. The current driver I am using is the Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.5.2. The release date of this one was 5/17/2021 so that’s probably the broken one that you have mentioned.

I have installed Chimera X and this seems to work fine but I have only used it for about an hour. I am new to Chimera and have been following a tutorial series that uses Chimera. Unfortunately the two seem to be quite different so I really need Chimera to be able to continue. Not that it’s important, I’m just explaining my situation.

When I am home in a couple of days, I will go back to the driver version 21.4.1 and see how that gets on.

Thanks for your help.

Kind Regards,

George

Hi George,
What driver do you have installed exactly? A recent driver update for Radeon cards breaks Chimera but it was our understanding that the very latest update (Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.4.1 from 20 April 2021; Windows display driver version 27.20.21002.112) fixes the problem.

Hello,

I am installing chimera for the first time so have very limited experience. The error code -1073741819 comes up after booting. I have the latest driver installed on my graphics card (amd radeon 5600 xt) and have tried installing both the latest windows 64 bit release, and the daily build (may 20 2021).

The debug log comes up with the following;

Cannot execute 'gzip': no automatic decompression of .Z files

initializing general preferences
loading Tix
initializing graphics
Return code: -1073741819
Press return or enter to to exit

Any help as to what I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. I can provide more details if needed. Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,

George
