[Chimera-users] save images/scene - independent of chimera window

Hi Dominique,
When you restore a session it is supposed to restore the same graphics window size as when you saved the session. There are a few exceptions, like if you saved the session on a large-screen computer and then open on a laptop, it could be smaller if the original size does not fit on the screen. Or, if you accidentally changed the size of the window after restoring the session, just close all and then restore the session again.

However, yes you can save higher or lower resolution than the current window size by entering a different pixel size in the save image dialog (or if using the "copy" command, specifying pixel size with "width" or "height"). It is not recommended to save a different aspect ratio than the window, however. Before saving the image, you should change the window to the desired aspect ratio (if it is not already) using "windowsize" command.

<http://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/midas/windowsize.html>

For example, if you wanted a 2000 pixel by 1600 pixel image (5:4 aspect ratio) but your window is currently square, use something like command "windowsize 750 600" (or another size with 5:4 ratio) and then save the image at width 2000, which would automatically also set the height to 1600.

Saving images:

I recommend re-saving the session with the window at the aspect ratio that you want, so that it will be that way the next time you restore it.

I hope this helps,
Elaine
