[Chimera-users] Does UCSF Chimera support RTX 2080 Ti?

Hi Junha,

The 2080 Ti will work fine with Chimera. The main trouble with graphics cards are buggy drivers, especially a problem on cards no one uses. Not too many people use 2080 Ti, but it likely uses the drivers of the 2080, 2070, that are more widely used.

The 2080 Ti is an expensive card $1200-1400. The claimed speed improvements over the 1080 and 1080 Ti are mostly measuring a new raytracing capability that almost no software uses, Chimera does not use it. In the future (probably at least a year away) we may try hardware raytracing in ChimeraX.

   Tom
