[Chimera-users] Problem opening DOI from Protein Data Bank

It sounds like you chose a file type in the Chimera File/Open… dialog “File type” menu and now it is remember that type. Change the Open dialog “File type” menu to “all (guess type)” to have Chimera automatically recognize the file type from the file suffix.
