[Chimera-users] Split view feature

Hi Markus,
The closest thng available in Chimera is to:
(1) superimpose the structure and/or map models
(2) translate them apart without rotating
(3) set independent rotation mode
(4) (optionally) set orthographic projection so you aren’t viewing them at slightly different angles
It is not exact, in that the individual centers of rotation are not necessarily exactly superimposed when the models are superimposed. So after a bunch of interactive rotations they might seem a little out of sync. I would save the positions after steps #1 and #2 so that they can be restored easily (commands savepos and reset).
Details on the steps…
(1) use your preferred method of superposition

(2) “move” command, e.g.: move x 20 mod #4; move x -20 mod #3
<http://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/midas/move.html>
(3) “set independent” or equivalent setting in Rotation tool (menu under Tools… Movement)
<http://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/midas/set.html>
(4) “set projection orthographic” or equivalent setting in Camera tool (menu under Tools… Viewing Controls)
There are so many possible features for ChimeraX and many of them have not been decided upon definitively. However, you can always mention things that you believe would be highly useful, as it may help us prioritize the giant list!
I hope this helps,
Elaine

What I want is a split screen or split view in the Chimera main window, where one structure is displayed on the left, and the other on the right. Movements (rotation, translation etc.) would be synchronized between both windows, whereas other functionality such as Zone select, find Hbonds etc. would not.
