Hi Matt,
Thanks for the suggestions.  There are currently some partial solutions, which you may or may not already know about:

(1) clicking the small square color well for a model in the Model Panel should bring up the Color Editor.

(2) you can save a palette of your favorite colors by dragging from the top area to the little squares near the bottom of the Color Editor.  These are remembered in your preferences file.  You can also just enter the text name of a color (e.g. “yellow” “tan” etc.) in the “Color name” field of the Color Editor.
