Hi Ludo,
There is a setting because opening large data with step 1 might be too much for some computers, but you can change it.
>From the Volume Viewer menu, choose "Features… Data display options” — this will show certain options in the dialog, including “Adjust step to show at most…” You can turn that option off entirely or leave it on but increase the size limit. You might also want to adjust the “Show data when opened if smaller than…” setting.

Then to save your settings for later uses of Chimera, from the Volume Viewer menu choose “Features… Save default dialog settings”. For more details, see the Features section of:
