[Chimera-users] regarding distance measurement

Dear Abhishek,
Lines becoming thin in saved images is a fairly common problem… it occurs because there is a limit to how thick your computer can draw the lines, and when creating a high-resolution image especially with supersampling (which makes the image a lot larger than the final size and then samples it back down to that size). the lines often look very thin in the final result.

The Image Save dialog will show a message at the bottom, something like “effective maximum linewidth,” that reports how thick the lines will be in the result given your current resolution and supersampling settings.

Options are to decrease supersampling, decrease resolution (final pixel dimensions), or show the lines as sticks instead (but then they can’t be dashed or dotted).  I have often fixed this by going to 2x2 or no (1x1) supersampling; if you have high resolution, i.e. lots of pixels, that still might look good enough.
