Since this problem is probably of zero interest to anyone else on this list, I am going to open a ticket in our bug database for the problem that will allow us to solicit further feedback without clogging up everyone else's mailboxes.
Normally you would use Chimera's Help->Report A Bug to report such a problem, but since Chimera won't start you can't. Just so people know, in such cases there are two other ways to report an issue:
1) Use the bug-submission form at http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/cgi-bin/chimera_bug_report_2.py to report it. Not the easiest URL to memorize. The easier-to-remember way to get to it is to go to the Chimera home page, click on the "Contact Us" link, and then use the "online submission form" link.
2) Send mail directly to chimera-bugs at cgl.ucsf.edu. We slightly prefer the previous method because it gives us a little more info, but this method is fine too.
