[Chimera-users] Chimera inquiry: .py to .u3d conversion

Hi Will,

Sounds like you might be trying to prepare a 3D PDF file.

I use Chimera to output a .OBJ file (File > Export). Then I import it using DAZStudio and then export as .U3D.

There are probably other ways to do this, but this works well for me.

NB: A .py file will not work — this file is just a list of instructions or recipe for recreating the scene — it does not contain any 3D information.

Hope that helps,
Darrell

Subject: [Chimera-users] Chimera inquiry: .py to .u3d conversion

Hello,

My name is Will. I'm a researcher at the University of Iowa. Our group has been using your Chimera software to visualize a model of our protein of interest. It's been very helpful but I've run into a small issue that I'd like to ask your advice on. I'm trying to convert the 3d image of the saved .py file into a universal 3D file (.u3d). I have tried several types of conversion software including polytrans/nugraph, 3DVIA Composer, and CS5 Adobe Photoshop with no success. Could you please tell me if conversion of .py to .u3d is possible, and if so how I might go about it. Thank you, I appreciate your time.

Sincerely,

Will
