Hi Rebecca!
The coloring part of Render by Attribute can be done with the "rangecolor" command:
<http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/current/docs/UsersGuide/midas/rangecolor.html>
For example, to color molecular surfaces only (not atoms, ribbons, labels, etc.) based on values of the attribute named kdHydrophobicity:
rangecol kdHydrophobicity,s -4.0 lime green 0.0 white 4.0 brown
You can also use min, mid, max instead of specific values, and many possible colors:
<http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/current/docs/UsersGuide/midas/color.html#colorname>
There aren't commands for the other parts of Render by Attribute (radii, worms), but luckily it sounds like you are interested in the coloring part.
I hope this helps,
Elaine

I have several Defined Attributes and i'd like to be able to recolor surfaces by the various attributes at different points in a movie. What would the format for that type of command be? Thanks for any help you guys have!
